Abstract The article examines theoretical and applied aspects of the socio-economic development of business entities in the agricultural sector of the economy and substantiates approaches to assessing the level of social responsibility of enterprises and human resources in agricultural production. The relevance of the research topic is due to the need to increase the efficiency of the functioning of agricultural enterprises in the context of transformation processes in the national economy, increased competition in agricultural markets, as well as the aggravation of the problems of human resources and development of human capital in rural areas. It is determined that the socio-economic development of agricultural enterprises is a complex process that covers the economic, social and organizational aspects of the activities of enterprises. A special role in this process is played by effective human resource management, the formation of stable personnel potential and the implementation of the principles of social responsibility of business. It is substantiated that socially responsible activities of enterprises contribute to increasing the level of social stability of labor collectives, the development of social infrastructure of rural areas, and strengthening interaction between business and local communities. The paper analyzes the main components of social responsibility of enterprises in the agricultural sector, and also defines a system of indicators for assessing the human resource potential of enterprises. An approach to a comprehensive assessment of the socio-economic development of agricultural enterprises is proposed, which involves taking into account economic, social and human resource indicators. It is established that the level of human resource provision of enterprises largely determines their innovative potential, labor productivity and competitiveness in the agricultural market. A model of social responsibility of agricultural business entities, a system for assessing the human resource potential of enterprises, and an organizational and economic mechanism for developing the socio-economic potential of agricultural enterprises have been developed. It has been proven that implementation of these approaches will contribute to increasing efficiency of agricultural enterprises, developing human capital, and ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of rural areas.
