| Abstract | The article is devoted to the analysis of the implementation and process of formation of the development strategy of the Cherkasy region. The main indicators of the socio-economic development of Ukraine and the Cherkasy region in 2015–2019 and the indicators of revenues to the local budgets of the Cherkasy region for 2021–2022 were analyzed. The peculiarities of the development of the strategy of the Cherkasy region until 2027 were considered. Means of implementation of the regional development strategy are given, including: target regional programs, scenarios and strategic visions, goals. The key shortcomings of the implementation of targeted complex programs are singled out and, on this basis, directions for improving strategic planning in modern conditions are proposed, which include: reducing the number of documents defining the prospects of the region's development; coordination of various goals defined in these documents; focus on real investment projects; optimization of procedures for development and approval of regional strategies. The main problem of modern economic development is the choice of the right direction of development, the clear definition of the key points on this path and the implementation of the chosen model. Today, strategic planning of the development of the territory is considered one of the most promising and effective mechanisms for the implementation of long-term regional policy in the conditions of strengthening the self-organization of united territorial communities. The goal of regional policy is to develop the economy, to improve the lives of residents and improve the quality of life. In many countries of the world, regional policy has become an important category of activity of governing bodies, as evidenced by its successful implementation. Today in Ukraine, there is no doubt about the necessity and relevance of planning activities at the local level. In our country, as in other countries of the world, a strategic approach to planning sustainable territorial development is actively being developed and implemented. According to the results of the research and prospects for further exploration in this direction. During 2015–2019, the rate of growth of indicators in the Cherkasy region is higher compared to the Ukrainian average, the unemployment rate is lower than the national average (8.3 % as opposed to 8.6 % in 2019) and one of the negative indicators there is a high level of subsidization of local budgets of the Cherkasy region in comparison with the all-Ukrainian value. Therefore, the implementation of the Regional Development Strategy should help to transform its economy into a more competitive one due to the inflow of both direct foreign and domestic investments in promising sectors, stimulation of entrepreneurship development, development of human capital, which in the end will have a positive effect on increasing the export potential of local producers and development of new product sales markets | ||
