Abstract The objective of the research was to analyze the current state of classification of weeds by domestic scientists from the middle of the last century to the present day. Particular attention was paid to the agrobiological classification, initiated by the staff of the Department of Agriculture of the National Agrarian University, and now NUBiP of Ukraine. The disadvantage of this classification was that among young weeds the biological groups of spring early and late spring weeds did not stand out separately, which differ in biological characteristics and methods of combating them, and among perennial weeds, weeds with different vegetative ability were not distinguished as separate subtypes. breeding. After all, it is this ability that underlies the technology of dealing with them. In the second version of the agrobiological classification of weeds, placed in the textbook “Agriculture” of the 2010 edition, the first drawback with the above analysis of the classification scheme for weeds relative to their spring representatives is eliminated, but with respect to perennials, the above drawback remains. Moreover, while the authors of the previously considered variant of the agrobiological classification of weeds identified eight biological groups, in the second variant there were three less of them. In addition, the authors of the second version of the classification of weeds do not at all mention their division into types, subtypes and biological groups, which was precisely the basis of the agrobiological classification of weeds. All the above-mentioned disadvantages of both classification options were eliminated by the staff of the Department of General Agriculture of the Uman National University of Horticulture. The use of their variant will make it possible to envisage effective weed control measures using agrotechnical methods without the use of herbicides in the transition of farms to organic farming.
